The platform allows families to create, manage, and participate in various games and activities, fostering a sense of community and friendly competition. WP Whales was tasked with building this unique platform from the ground up, ensuring that it was both intuitive and engaging for users of all ages.
The primary challenge for the Reunion platform was to create a system where families could easily connect, set up groups and subgroups, and engage in fun, competitive activities. The platform needed to accommodate different roles within a family, such as Admins (Heads of the House), Adults, and Kids, each with specific permissions and capabilities. Additionally, the platform had to support the creation and management of games, including leaderboards and point systems, while ensuring that the user experience was smooth and enjoyable.
To meet these challenges, WP Whales implemented a series of key features:
Sign-Up Process: We designed a streamlined sign-up process where every new user automatically becomes a Family Admin. Upon signing up, the Admin receives an email confirmation, which directs them back to Reunion. A mandatory pop-up prompts the Admin to invite family members to join the platform, ensuring that no one is left out. The Admin enters information such as Name, Phone, Email, and Role to set up accounts for each family member.
Family and Subfamily Setup: The platform was built to support the creation of families and subfamilies (groups and subgroups). Admins and Adults can create subfamilies, and each member of a subfamily is automatically included in the larger family group. This structure allows for seamless interaction and participation across the entire family, with roles assigned by the Admin during setup.
Family Member Addition: Admins can invite family members via email links, which prompt them to create their accounts and update their profiles. The system automatically adds new members to the relevant groups, subgroups, and games, ensuring that everyone is connected and ready to participate.
Game Development: The core feature of Reunion is its game creation and management system. Admins can create games for their families, which range from simple tasks to competitive challenges. For example, a game might involve visiting the most national parks in a year or completing a checklist of activities. The first game is created by the Admin, with subsequent games being created by the winners of previous games. Each game includes instructions, and a leaderboard tracks progress and winners.
Gamification and Points System: The platform incorporates a gamification process where points are awarded based on task completion. For "Set" activities (e.g., first to complete 20 tasks), points are awarded based on order of completion. For "Most" activities (e.g., whoever completes the most tasks), points are awarded per completion. This system encourages participation and adds an element of friendly competition.
Responsive to Changes: Throughout the development process, WP Whales remained responsive to changes in UI and flow, ensuring that the platform evolved based on user feedback and client needs. Major feature changes were scoped separately, allowing for a flexible and adaptive development process.
The implementation process involved close collaboration with the Reunion team to ensure that every feature aligned with their vision. We began by designing the sign-up and family setup processes, ensuring that they were intuitive and user-friendly. The game creation and management system was then developed, with a focus on making it engaging and accessible for all users. We also integrated a points system and leaderboards to track progress and encourage competition.
Throughout the project, we made several iterations based on feedback, refining the platform to meet the needs of both the client and the end users. The result was a robust, scalable platform that could grow and evolve as more families joined Reunion.
Reunion successfully launched with all the desired features, providing families with a fun and engaging way to connect and compete. The platform’s intuitive design and comprehensive features have been well-received by users, who appreciate the ease of setting up groups, inviting family members, and participating in games. The points system and leaderboards have added an extra layer of excitement, keeping users motivated and engaged.
The Reunion platform is a testament to WP Whales’ ability to create innovative, user-friendly solutions that meet the unique needs of our clients.
